eSIM Users to Reach 4.5 Billion by 2030

Dhaka, May 26, 2025 – eSIM technology is rapidly gaining popularity in smartphones and other smart devices worldwide, according to a recent study by Kaleido Intelligence. The research projects that by 2030, 75% of smartphones globally will be equipped with eSIM capabilities.

Last year, approximately 500 million devices were using eSIMs, but this number is expected to skyrocket to 4.5 billion by 2030. Beyond smartphones, eSIMs are being integrated into Internet of Things (IoT) devices, marking the beginning of a new era in connectivity.
An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM card integrated directly into devices such as smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, and IoT devices. It allows users to switch numbers or operators seamlessly without the need for a physical SIM card. Known for being eco-friendly and user-friendly, eSIM technology is gaining widespread acceptance globally.
The report highlights that the expansion of 5G networks, user convenience, and the growing demand for smart devices are driving the projected 4.5 billion eSIM connections by 2030. Additionally, China’s recent decision to relax eSIM-related restrictions is expected to boost adoption further, with eSIM-enabled smartphones set to enter the Chinese market in the third quarter of this year. Analysts predict that this development will significantly enhance global eSIM adoption.
Experts attribute eSIM’s success to the rapid expansion of 5G networks, which provide fast and reliable internet connectivity. As an environmentally sustainable solution, eSIM technology is poised to pave the way for more resilient and eco-conscious connectivity in the future.
