01 June, 2025 : Rangpur, the Jatiya Party (JaPa) and the National Citizen Party (NCP) have filed counter lawsuits following an attack and vandalism incident at the residence of Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station, Md. Ataur Rahman, confirmed the development on Sunday (June 1) evening, stating that both cases were recorded in the afternoon.
The incident occurred on Thursday (May 29) at GM Quader’s residence, ‘The Sky View,’ in the city’s Senpara area. On Friday (May 30) night, several Jatiya Party leaders approached Kotwali Police Station to file a case against activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and NCP. The plaintiff in this case was Arif Ali, Central Member Secretary of Jatiya Chhatra Samaj. However, the OC recorded only a complaint that day instead of registering the case. On Saturday (May 31), JaPa Co-Chairman and former Rangpur Mayor Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the OC to register the case. The lawsuit names 22 individuals and includes 50-60 unidentified persons as accused.
On the other hand, on Saturday, Alamgir Rahman Nayan, an NCP organizer in Rangpur, filed a case against GM Quader, Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, and 16 other Jatiya Party leaders and activists. Nayan alleged that during a peaceful protest march demanding action against Jatiya Party’s misconduct and the arrest of GM Quader, the latter’s supporters attacked them on GM Quader’s instructions. Four NCP activists were injured in the incident. This case names 80-90 unidentified individuals as accused.
OC Ataur Rahman stated that both cases have been recorded, and legal action will be taken based on the investigation.
