Chittagong Bureau, June 1, 2025 : In a significant development in Chittagong, a court has granted a five-day remand for Matiur Rahman, the owner of Nur Fashion and Garments, located at DT Road under Pahartali Thana. The decision follows the seizure of 15,000 suspicious uniforms believed to be linked to the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), a militant group operating in the hill regions. The police conducted a raid on the factory on the night of May 27, arresting Matiur Rahman during the operation.
On Sunday, June 1, Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Ibrahim Khalil issued the remand order after a hearing. The police had initially sought a 10-day remand to interrogate Matiur Rahman in connection with a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Confirming the court’s decision, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) Mofiz Uddin stated that the five-day remand was granted to further investigate the matter.
According to the case statement, the seized uniforms were allegedly commissioned by a suspected militant named Mahalsin Marma for Tk50 lakh. The uniforms are believed to belong to KNF, a banned armed group. The case was filed by Sub-Inspector Ariful Islam of Bayezid Bostami Thana at Pahartali Thana.
In related incidents, on May 26, police recovered 11,785 uniforms from a factory in the Oxygen Noyahat area. Additionally, on May 17, the Detective Branch of Police seized 20,300 suspicious uniforms from Ringvo Apparels in the Noyahat area under Bayezid Bostami Thana. In that case, a Tk2 crore contract was reportedly made for the production of the uniforms. Three individuals—Sahedul Islam, the factory owner, and Golam Azam and Niaz Haider, who facilitated the order—were arrested.
Police investigations indicate that the uniforms were being produced for KNF, raising concerns about the involvement of local factories in supplying materials to armed groups.
