02 June 2025, A delegation from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is set to meet Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin today, Monday (2 June), at the Election Commission office in Agargaon. The meeting is scheduled for 12 PM.
The CEC’s private secretary, Md. Ashraful Islam, confirmed the meeting on Sunday (1 June). He stated that Jamaat leader ATM Azharul Islam requested a meeting via phone, and the CEC has granted them time. A delegation of four to five members is expected to attend.
The Supreme Court’s Appellate Division began hearings on 12 March regarding the restoration of Jamaat-e-Islami’s registration and election symbol, concluding on 14 May. The verdict was scheduled for 1 June. Earlier, the party had applied to revive its dismissed appeal to regain its registration.
Notably, on 1 August 2013, the High Court declared Jamaat-e-Islami’s registration illegal and canceled it following a writ petition. Subsequently, on 7 December 2018, the Election Commission issued a gazette notification canceling the party’s registration. Jamaat later appealed against the High Court’s decision, but in November 2023, the Appellate Division, led by then-Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan, dismissed the appeal as “dismissed for default” due to the absence of the party’s lead counsel.
