11 June, 2025 : Renowned European aircraft manufacturer Airbus and British aviation services provider Menzies Aviation have expressed interest in establishing long-term partnerships with the Bangladesh government. During separate meetings in London on Tuesday, both organizations presented their proposals to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
Airbus Executive Vice-President Wouter Van Werschweid said, “We consider Bangladesh a priority country. We are eager to partner with Bangladesh Biman Airlines and make it a profitable entity.” He highlighted that Airbus delivers 800 aircraft annually and has expertise in manufacturing helicopters and fighter jets. He further added that if Bangladesh opts to purchase Airbus planes, 85% of the total cost could be financed through Export Credit Agency (ECA) funding.
Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus responded by stating, “We are open to hearing all proposals for modernizing Bangladesh’s aircraft fleet, but no hasty decisions will be made. We will consider everything afresh.”
Meanwhile, Menzies Aviation’s Executive Vice-President Charles Wylie stated that the company is prepared to participate in the bidding process to provide ground handling and air cargo services at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s third terminal. Menzies already provides similar services at over 300 airports across 65 countries. Wylie added, “We want to support not only your national airline but also Bangladesh’s airports.”
