Cabinet Approves Draft of The Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Ordinance 2025

 

The Advisory Council, in its 31st meeting held at the Chief Adviser's Office on Sunday, granted preliminary and final approval to the draft of ‘The Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Ordinance 2025’. The meeting was chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

According to a press release from the Cabinet Division, the draft was finalized following vetting by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division. The ordinance aims to amend existing criminal procedure laws to enhance judicial processes. In the same meeting, the council approved a proposal to declare all categories of services under the National Board of Revenue (NBR), including customs houses, Inland Container Depots (ICDs), bond commissionerates, and customs stations, as essential services to safeguard public interest. To address ongoing challenges faced by the NBR, a committee was formed under the leadership of the Adviser to the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources. The committee includes advisers from the Ministries of Housing and Public Works, Labour and Employment, Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Commerce. The council also approved the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh on counter-terrorism and security cooperation. Additionally, a proposal to establish a ‘mission’ of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Bangladesh received in-principle approval. Furthermore, the council greenlit the implementation of the National Rooftop Solar Programme, aimed at promoting renewable energy initiatives across the country.
