Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus Departs for the United Kingdom

Dhaka, June 9, 2025: Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the interim government, left Dhaka for a four-day official visit to the United Kingdom on Monday (June 9) at 7:30 PM via an Emirates flight from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The departure was confirmed by Dr. Yunus’s Deputy Press Secretary, Abul Kalam Azad Mazumdar.

During the visit, Dr. Yunus is scheduled to meet King Charles III at Buckingham Palace, where he will receive the prestigious ‘King Charles Harmony Award.’ He is also expected to hold a bilateral meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Accompanying him are Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur and Anti-Corruption Commission Chairman Dr. Abdul Momen.
Key discussion points during the visit include repatriating laundered money from Bangladesh, enhancing bilateral trade and investment, addressing the Rohingya crisis, and garnering political support for Bangladesh’s democratic transition, including reforms and elections. Additionally, the UK may revisit its earlier proposal to sell four aircraft to Bangladesh, a deal discussed during the previous government’s tenure. Dr. Yunus is also slated to participate in a dialogue hosted by the Chatham House think tank.
Notably, following the student-people’s uprising on August 8 last year, Dr. Yunus assumed leadership of the interim government. Since then, he has attended several high-profile international events, including the UN General Assembly, COP-29, the D-8 Summit, the World Economic Forum in Davos, and other visits to China, Thailand, Qatar, Vatican City, and Japan.
