A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of a two-story house owned by Mohammad Saiful Alam, Chairman of S Alam Group, located in Cyprus. Additionally, 19 companies’ shares in the British Virgin Islands and six trust companies in Jersey, registered under Saiful Alam and his wife Farzana Parveen, have been frozen.
The order was issued on Tuesday (June 24) by Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md. Zakir Hossain Galib following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). ACC Public Relations Officer Aktarul Islam confirmed the development.
According to court sources, the application was filed by ACC Deputy Director Tahasin Munabil Haque. After the hearing, the court granted the application. Earlier, on October 7, a travel ban was imposed on Saiful Alam, his wife Farzana Parveen, and 12 family members. Additionally, significant assets and shares in their names have been frozen over time.
On January 16, shares worth BDT 3,563.84 crore were frozen, followed by assets worth BDT 368.25 crore (175 bighas) on February 3, shares valued at BDT 5,109 crore on February 12, shares worth BDT 8,133.56 crore on February 23, 1,006 bighas of land on March 10, 90 bighas of land and 374 bank accounts on April 9, 1,360 bank accounts holding BDT 2,619.07 crore on April 17, 159 acres of land worth BDT 407 crore on April 23, 1,014 bighas of land worth BDT 559.48 crore on April 27, and 201 acres of land worth BDT 180.61 crore on June 17.
The ACC is investigating allegations of corruption and money laundering against S Alam Group, and these actions are part of the ongoing probe.
