In Rangpur’s Taraganj upazila, a mobile court fined four traders for illegally stockpiling sweets in a potato cold storage facility. On Friday (June 6) night around 10 PM, a joint operation led to the seizure of 3,380 kg of sweets from Brothers Cold Storage in the Ghanirampur area. Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Rubel Rana, through the mobile court, imposed a total fine of Tk 50,000 on the four traders.
The fined traders include Fazlu Haque, owner of Bhai Bhai Mistimukh in Taraganj Bazar (Tk 5,000), Srijit Deb, owner of Sylhet Mistimukh (Tk 25,000), Hafizar Rahman, owner of Rabbani Hotel (Tk 15,000), and Nur Alam, owner of Bandhan Mistimukh (Tk 5,000).
During the operation, a total of 26 drums of sweets, each containing approximately 130 kg, were seized. Of these, 2 drums belonged to Bhai Bhai Mistimukh, 14 to Sylhet Mistimukh, 8 to Rabbani Hotel, and 2 to Bandhan Mistimukh. The seized sweets were subsequently destroyed.
UNO Rubel Rana confirmed, “We seized and destroyed approximately 3,380 kg of sweets during the operation. The traders and cold storage owners have been warned not to engage in such activities in the future.”
The operation was led by Lieutenant Colonel Sharif, who stated, “Based on confidential information, we learned that sweets were being stockpiled in Brothers Cold Storage ahead of Eid. We conducted the raid and destroyed the spoiled and harmful sweets that posed a risk to public health.”
