Health Directorate Issues 11-Point Guidelines to Prevent COVID-19 Spread

National Desk, June 11, 2025: Amid a recent surge in COVID-19 cases globally and in Bangladesh, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has decided to resume COVID-19 testing in hospitals across the country. Additionally, the DGHS has issued an 11-point guideline to curb the spread of the virus. These directives were announced by DGHS Director General Professor Dr. Md. Abu Jafar during a press conference held at the DGHS headquarters on Wednesday (June 11).

Dr. Abu Jafar highlighted that new sub-variants of the coronavirus have been identified, raising concerns about potential spread through international travelers. To address this, surveillance has been intensified at land, sea, and air ports through International Health Regulation (IHR) desks. He urged the public to enhance health awareness to prevent further outbreaks.
Guidelines for the General Public:
  1. Avoid crowded places; wear a mask if attendance is unavoidable.
  2. Use masks to protect against respiratory diseases.
  3. Cover nose and mouth with an elbow or tissue during coughing or sneezing.
  4. Dispose of used tissues immediately in a covered bin.
  5. Wash hands frequently with soap and water or use hand sanitizer (for at least 20 seconds).
  6. Avoid touching eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  7. Stay at least 3 feet away from infected individuals and avoid contact.
Guidelines for Suspected Cases:
  1. Stay home if experiencing fever, cough, or breathing difficulties until recovery.
  2. Ensure patients wear masks to cover their nose and mouth.
  3. Caregivers should wear masks as a precaution.
  4. Contact nearby hospitals, IEDCR (01401-196293), or the Health Helpline (16263) if needed.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated that preparations, including COVID-19 testing (rt-PCR, Rapid Antigen Test), vaccines, treatment guidelines, medicines, medical-grade oxygen, ICU facilities, and safety equipment (KN95 masks, PPE, face shields), are ongoing in coordination with relevant ministries and agencies. Further details will be shared in an upcoming press conference.
