Dhaka, June 7, 2025: On the first day of Eid-ul-Adha, more than 100 individuals were injured in Dhaka and its surrounding areas due to mishandling of sharp tools during animal slaughter and meat processing. Most of the injured are seasonal butchers. These individuals sought treatment at the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital from Saturday morning until 3:15 PM.
Dr. Mustak Ahmed, Resident Surgeon of DMC Hospital’s emergency department, reported that over 100 injured persons arrived at the hospital from the capital and nearby areas during this period. A few of them were admitted, but all are out of danger. The majority received primary treatment and were discharged. Hospital sources indicate that most of the injured are seasonal butchers who sustained injuries due to carelessness while slaughtering animals or cutting meat. Additionally, some individuals were injured while performing their own animal sacrifices.
Such incidents occur every year during Eid-ul-Adha, primarily due to carelessness, lack of experience, and the involvement of unskilled seasonal butchers. Doctors and relevant authorities suggest that the number of injuries may rise by the end of the day.
Experts recommend exercising caution when using sharp tools and hiring skilled butchers to reduce such accidents during the sacrificial process.
