Rajshahi, 7 June 2025: In Rajshahi, sacrificial meat collected from households is being sold at Tk 700 per kilogram. On Saturday (7 June) around 8 PM, this activity was observed along the Rajshahi-Naogaon highway near the Rail Bhaban and at the Darikharbona rail gate.
Approximately 30 to 35 individuals have set up temporary shops on vans to sell the meat. They purchase the meat, primarily beef, from various households and sell it here. People who cannot afford to perform sacrifices or feel hesitant to accept meat from others are buying from these vendors.
Sumon Islam, a battery-powered rickshaw driver, said, “Every year, sacrificial meat is sold here. Beef is being sold at Tk 700 per kg, but mutton is not available.”
Meat seller Ruhul stated that he buys beef at Tk 550 to 600 per kg and sells it at Tk 700. “Sales are decent. However, there’s demand for mutton, but we don’t have any,” he added.
The meat mainly comes from those who assist in slaughtering sacrificial animals or collect meat from households. This system serves as an alternative avenue for locals to buy and sell sacrificial meat.
