Kushtia, June 19, 2025: Nahidul Islam Rupal, a student leader, was killed in a tragic accident when a sand-laden truck collided with his motorcycle in the Lahini Bottola area of Kushtia Sadar Upazila. The incident occurred around 6:30 PM on Thursday on the Kushtia-Rajbari road.
The deceased, Nahidul Islam Rupal, was a resident of Aruapara in Dr. Abul Kashem Lane, Kushtia town. He previously served as the joint general secretary of the Kushtia Government College unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) student wing, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
According to eyewitnesses, Rupal was riding his motorcycle back home from Kumarkhali Upazila when a sand-laden truck hit him from behind in the Lahini Bottola area. The impact threw him onto the road, and he was crushed under the truck’s wheels, resulting in his immediate death. The truck driver and his assistant fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind.
Following the news of Rupal’s death, Kushtia district BNP convener Kutub Uddin Ahmed, member secretary Engineer Zakir Hossain Sarkar, and other leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliate organizations rushed to the spot.
Mosharraf Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Station, confirmed that the body was recovered and sent to the morgue of Kushtia General Hospital. The truck driver and his assistant remain at large, and police have launched an investigation to apprehend them.
