International Desk, 09 June, 2025 : Anti-immigration protests in Los Angeles, California, have escalated, turning the city into a battleground. In response, U.S. President Donald Trump has issued an order to arrest protesters wearing masks during these demonstrations.
According to a report by Indian news outlet NDTV, Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social, stating, “Arrest people in face masks now.” He had previously declared, “From now on, masks will not be allowed during protests.” However, questions have been raised about the legal validity of this order under federal law.
The report notes that protesters are wearing masks for two primary reasons: to conceal their identities and to protect themselves from tear gas and explosion smoke. Trump, however, believes that masks are being used as a cover to incite violence.
NDTV reported that on Sunday, the California National Guard was deployed to suppress the third day of protests against Trump’s immigration policies. California’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom has called this deployment illegal.
The Los Angeles Police Department stated that 27 protesters were arrested for disobeying police orders. U.S. Vice President JD Vance has hinted at deploying additional troops, though the Trump administration has yet to make a final decision.
Since taking office, Trump has adopted stringent measures to deport undocumented immigrants. Over the past few days, immigration authorities have conducted raids across Los Angeles and other parts of California, arresting 118 individuals. These arrests sparked protests in Los Angeles, which have grown increasingly intense. To control the situation, the White House decided to deploy 2,000 National Guard members.
