UIU Withdraws Expulsion of 22 Students Amid Protests

Dhaka, June 21, 2025: Following intense protests by students, United International University (UIU), a private university in Dhaka, has withdrawn the expulsion orders of 22 students. The decision was made during a meeting held on Saturday (June 21) night, attended by the police, university authorities, the proctorial body, and the disciplinary committee.

Abu Sadat Mostasir Billah, Director of UIU’s Public Relations Department, informed Kaler Kantho that the decision was taken in light of the prevailing situation. He stated, “We hope the students will now return to classes. However, if anyone continues the protests, they will have to bear the responsibility for their actions.”
Earlier on Saturday morning, UIU students blocked roads in the capital’s New Market area, pressing a five-point demand. The protests prompted the university authorities to reconsider their earlier decision.
Sources within the university indicate that discussions regarding the reinstatement of the expelled students are ongoing, and efforts are being made to restore calm. However, details of the students’ demands have not yet been disclosed.
