Gaza, July 20, 2025: A 35-day-old infant succumbed to severe malnutrition due to a lack of food in Gaza, according to Muhammad Abu Salmiya, director of Al-Shifa Hospital. He reported that on Saturday, July 19, 2025, the infant, along with another individual, died of starvation at the hospital. Meanwhile, Israeli forces continued their assaults across the Gaza Strip, with medical sources stating that at least 116 people were killed in attacks since Saturday dawn. Among them, 38 were shot dead while attempting to collect aid from a relief center operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).The Gaza Health Ministry has warned that hospital emergency departments are overwhelmed with people facing death due to extreme hunger, a situation unprecedented in the region. Authorities estimate that approximately 17,000 children in Gaza are suffering from acute malnutrition.
Israel has been obstructing aid deliveries to Gaza to pressure the Palestinian resistance group Hamas, while also firing on civilians seeking relief. Human rights organizations have described a U.S.- and Israel-backed aid distribution center as a “death trap.” Since late May, when GHF began distributing aid, nearly 900 starving Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and GHF’s hired security at its distribution centers. The organization operates four relief centers in Gaza, replacing around 400 previously managed by the United Nations and various charities, which are now considered high-risk areas.
