Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) reported the arrest of a banned Chhatra League activist caught in the act of attempting to set a bus on fire in the Shyampur area of the capital. The incident occurred early Sunday morning, July 20, 2025.According to a DMP press release, the arrested individual, identified as Siam Sarker (22), is an active member of the banned Chhatra League. The incident took place around 4 a.m. on the Dhaka-Mawa Highway in the Khandakar Road area, where a stationary bus was targeted for arson. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted an immediate operation and apprehended Siam at the scene. His accomplice, Rafsan, managed to flee and is also affiliated with the same organization.
The DMP press release further stated that Siam and Rafsan were acting under the instructions of Yuba League leader Shakil Bin Sams, alias Rabbi, with the intent to commit sabotage. Upon noticing the police, the duo attempted to escape, but Siam was detained on the spot. A regular case has been filed against him at the Shyampur Model Police Station, and efforts are underway to apprehend the absconding Rafsan.
