Chittagong Dry Dock Limited to Manage NCT for Six Months

Chittagong Dry Dock Limited has been entrusted with the operation of the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) at Chittagong Port for the next six months. An agreement between the Chittagong Port Authority and Chittagong Dry Dock Limited is expected to be signed by July 6, with operations commencing on July 7.

On Thursday (July 3) at around 6:45 PM, Mohammad Omar Faruk, Secretary of the Chittagong Port Authority, confirmed the news to Kalbela. He stated that the Ministry of Shipping has decided to assign the operation of NCT to Chittagong Dry Dock Limited under the Direct Procurement Method (DPM). A formal agreement between the two parties will be finalized soon. The Bangladesh Navy-operated Dry Dock has already begun the process of taking over NCT’s responsibilities.

Chittagong Dry Dock Limited is a state-owned entity managed by the Bangladesh Navy, primarily established for military ship repairs. Previously under the Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation, it began constructing cargo vessels in 2014 and built six pedestrian bridges for Sylhet city in 2015.
On Wednesday (July 2), following a meeting at the Secretariat in Dhaka, Shipping Advisor Brigadier General (Retd.) M Sakhawat Hossain informed journalists that the Bangladesh Navy has been assigned to manage NCT for the next six months. The decision received policy approval during the Advisory Committee on Economic Affairs meeting on Tuesday, followed by a final decision in a meeting between the port authority and the Ministry of Shipping on Wednesday.
