Clash Between BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami in Natore Leaves 10 Injured

A violent clash between supporters of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami took place in Chak Kalikapur village, Chamari Union, Singra Upazila, Natore, on Monday (July 21) around 10:30 PM. At least 10 people from both sides were injured in the incident that occurred in the Bhejaler Mor area.

The injured Jamaat-e-Islami supporters include Nazmul (35), the president of Ward No. 5, secretary Jahidul Islam, Farid Fardu (45), Swapan (30), Sagar (25), and Swapan’s 10-year-old daughter, Sumaiya Khatun. On the BNP side, the injured are Habil (35), son of Abdul Sardar, Kabil (45), Kausar (25), and Korban.

According to local sources, the clash stemmed from tensions over a central rally organized by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, which Nazmul and other activists attended. This reportedly provoked a reaction from BNP supporters, including Habil, Kabil, and Kausar. On their way back from the rally, a heated argument broke out between the two groups at Bhejaler Mor, escalating into a physical confrontation. Allegations state that both sides used iron rods, hammers, and sharp sickles during the attack.

Local residents rescued the injured and admitted them to Singra Upazila Health Complex and Natore Sadar Hospital for treatment.

Singra Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam said that police responded promptly to the incident and brought the situation under control. The area is now calm, he added.
