Killing Palestinians Seeking Aid in Gaza is Completely Unacceptable,” says EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas.
The European Union (EU) has issued a strong warning to Israel, condemning the targeting and killing of Palestinians seeking humanitarian aid in Gaza as "completely unacceptable." EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas made these remarks in response to ongoing reports of Israeli forces firing on civilians attempting to access relief supplies.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X on Tuesday, Kallas addressed Israel directly, saying, “I spoke with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar today over the phone. I made the EU’s position clear on the Gaza conflict, emphasizing that killing or targeting Palestinians seeking aid is wholly unacceptable.”
She further urged the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to immediately halt such actions, warning, “The IDF must stop killing Palestinians seeking aid. Otherwise, we have all options on the table.”
EU President Ursula von der Leyen echoed Kallas’ stance, expressing outrage over the situation. In a post on X, she stated, “The scenes we are witnessing in Gaza are beyond tolerable. The civilians in Gaza have been suffering unimaginable hardship for far too long. This must stop.”
Since the escalation of Israeli military operations in Gaza on October 7, 2023, the region has faced an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. Over 59,000 people have been killed, and approximately 150,000 others injured, according to reports. Israeli forces have been accused of obstructing food and aid deliveries to Gaza while also targeting civilians attempting to access the limited aid that is allowed through.
In recent months, multiple incidents of Israeli forces firing on crowds seeking aid have drawn widespread condemnation from the international community. Despite this, Israel has continued its actions, prompting this sharp rebuke from the EU, one of its closest allies in the region.
