To meet the country's energy demands, the government has decided to import one cargo of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for August. The cost of importing this LNG from Qatar will amount to BDT 556 crore 76 lakh 50 thousand 906.
On Tuesday (July 15), the Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, approved the import of this LNG during a meeting held at the Secretariat.
According to meeting sources, based on a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, the Advisory Council Committee granted provisional approval for importing one cargo of LNG (the 33rd cargo, scheduled for delivery between August 4-5, 2025) from the spot market through an international quotation process, adhering to the Public Procurement Rules, 2008.
It was learned that Petrobangla invited bids from 23 contracted entities under the Master Sale and Purchase Agreement (MSPA) for the supply of one LNG cargo. Three companies submitted bids, all of which were deemed technically and financially responsive.
Following the completion of the tender process and based on the recommendations of the Proposal Evaluation Committee (PEC), the lowest bidder, Qatar Energy Trading LLC, was selected to supply the LNG cargo from Qatar. The cost for one cargo, equivalent to 33 lakh 60 thousand MMBTU of LNG, will be BDT 556 crore 76 lakh 50 thousand 906, calculated at USD 13.24 per MMBTU.
