Patuakhali, July 15, 2025 – A newlywed woman was gang-raped by robbers during a home invasion in Kalapara, Patuakhali, sparking widespread fear in the area. The incident occurred late Sunday night, according to police and local sources.A gang of seven to eight armed robbers entered the house by cutting through the balcony grille between 2:00 AM and 3:00 AM. They tied up the hands, feet, and mouths of the family members, holding them hostage in one room. The robbers looted 13 bhori (approximately 150 grams) of gold ornaments and 50,000 BDT in cash after forcing the family to hand over keys to the almirah and showcase. The newlywed was taken to another room, where four robbers brutally assaulted and gang-raped her. On Monday afternoon, Patuakhali’s Superintendent of Police (SP), Md. Anwar Zahid, along with senior police officials and members of the Detective Branch (DB), visited the house. They gathered details from the victim and her family. The scene revealed extensive damage, with furniture, household items, almirahs, and showcases ransacked. The family members appeared traumatized and fearful. Kalapara Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC), Mohammad Juel Islam, told Prothom Alo that the victim underwent a medical examination in Patuakhali, and her statement will be recorded. Two suspects, identified as Shakil and Rasel, have been detained. A case has been filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at the Kalapara Police Station.
