The National Citizen Party (NCP) submitted a staggering 43,316 pages of documents to the Election Commission (EC) in an effort to meet the requirements for party registration. The documents were transported to the Election Commission building in a truck, showcasing the party’s determination to comply with the EC’s conditions. However, despite this massive submission, the NCP failed to pass the initial scrutiny process for registration.
On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, KM Ali Neowaz, Additional Secretary of the EC, announced that 62 parties, including the NCP, would receive letters from the EC, giving them 15 days to address deficiencies in their applications. Additional parties will also receive similar notices in subsequent phases.
The NCP’s application was submitted by a delegation led by Nasiruddin Patwary, accompanied by Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Chief Organizer (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam, and Senior Joint Convener Samantha Sharmin.
**No Party Passes Initial Scrutiny**
None of the parties, including the NCP, cleared the EC’s initial screening. Speaking to journalists outside the Election Commission building, Nasiruddin Patwary stated, “We brought all the necessary documents in a truck to meet the EC’s registration requirements and submitted the core paperwork through our delegation.”
**EC’s Conditions for New Party Registration**
To qualify for registration, a party must meet the following criteria:
1. Maintain an active central office.
2. Have functional committees in at least one-third of administrative districts.
3. Provide documentation of support from at least 200 voters in a minimum of 100 upazilas or metropolitan thanas.
4. Submit an application on party letterhead, including the party’s constitution, election manifesto (if available), party rules (if any), logo, flag, a list of central committee members, and details of the party’s bank account with its latest balance.
After receiving applications, the EC conducts a thorough verification process. Parties that meet all conditions are granted registration certificates along with an electoral symbol. Currently, 50 political parties are registered with the Election Commission.
