Police Constable Ainul Haque Arrested for Alleged Rape in Sunamganj


In Dharmapasha, Sunamganj, a police constable named Ainul Haque has been arrested on charges of raping a 20-year-old woman under the pretense of marriage. Ainul, aged 28, was serving as a constable at Dharmapasha Police Station and hails from Dubhag village in Islampur, Gowainghat Upazila, Sylhet.

According to reports, the victim, a college student, met Ainul while commuting to her college. Their acquaintance developed into a romantic relationship, and they met several times. On June 26, the victim was in Netrokona to attend her HSC examination. Around 2 PM that day, Ainul called her, informing her that he was on leave and asked her to meet him at the Mahadipur speedboat ghat in Dharmapasha. Upon her arrival, Ainul lured her with promises of marriage and took her to Sunamganj city. At around 8 PM, he checked into a residential hotel in the city under a false name and allegedly raped her in the hotel room. After the incident, whenever the victim brought up the topic of marriage, Ainul reportedly avoided the conversation. On June 29, after completing her exams, the victim confronted him again about marriage, but he denied any commitment and cut off contact. Distressed, the victim reported the incident to the Dharmapasha Police Station.
Mohammad Enamul Haque, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dharmapasha Police Station, confirmed that Ainul Haque was taken into police custody following the victim's complaint. The victim has filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, accusing Ainul of rape.
