In Kushtia, a traffic police constable named Farjul Islam Roni has been attached to the police lines following allegations of posting derogatory remarks about the July Revolution on his personal Facebook account. A three-member investigation committee has been formed to probe the incident, and the constable’s leave has been canceled, despite him currently being on leave.
Kushtia’s Superintendent of Police, Md. Mizanur Rahman, confirmed the development, stating, “Due to his anti-July Revolution remarks, Constable Farjul Islam, serving in the traffic police, has been attached to the police lines. His leave has been revoked, and a three-member committee has been constituted to take strict action against him.”
The incident came to light on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, when Farjul Islam Roni, a constable in Kushtia’s Traffic Department, posted derogatory content about the July Revolution on his Facebook account. The post sparked outrage among students, leading to protest marches in the area.
In response, members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Kushtia district branch, staged a demonstration in front of the Kushtia Superintendent of Police’s office around 9 PM on Tuesday, demanding the constable’s arrest and exemplary punishment. They also blocked the Kushtia-Meherpur highway as part of their protest.
Hasibur Rahman, convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Kushtia district branch, said, “Constable Farjul Islam Roni posted derogatory and offensive remarks about the July Revolution on Facebook. We are protesting and blocking the road in front of the SP’s office to demand his punishment. Our movement will continue until action is taken, and we demand his immediate arrest.”
Mostafizur Rahman, member secretary of the same organization, added, “The police constable insulted the July Revolution through his post. We demand his exemplary punishment and immediate arrest.”
The protest saw the participation of over a hundred activists, including Hasibur Rahman, Mostafizur Rahman, joint convener Sayad Islam Shrestha, chief organizer MD Belal Hossain Bandhan, Nayan, and representatives from the National Citizen Party (NCP), including Sultan Maruf Talha and Rasel Parvez.
Inspector Sheikh Shahadat Ali of Kushtia Traffic Police confirmed, “We have received the complaint, and appropriate action will be taken against him. He is currently on leave.”
Farjul Islam Roni, a resident of Dahkula village in Jhenaidah’s Shailkupa Upazila and son of the late Jalal Uddin Mridha, has been serving in the Kushtia Traffic Department since July 13, 2023.
Superintendent of Police Md. Mizanur Rahman further stated, “An urgent directive has been issued to all units of Kushtia district police, including the police lines, prohibiting any anti-July Revolution or anti-state comments. Strict legal action will be taken in case of any violation.”
