Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh Announces Broadband Price Reduction

The Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) has decided to lower the cost of broadband internet packages. The 700-taka package will now be offered at 500 taka, effective from Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

According to ISPAB, no internet service provider currently offers a 5 Mbps package; instead, the average package provides speeds of around 10 Mbps. Consequently, the new pricing for these packages will start at 500 taka. ISPAB President Aminul Hakim stated that the organization is committed to enhancing the quality of internet services in Bangladesh. He added that if the government withdraws the Social Obligation Fund (SOF) and revenue-sharing requirements, ISPs could guarantee a minimum bandwidth of 20 Mbps for customers in the future. Hakim further noted that many customers are unwilling to pay the additional 5% Value Added Tax (VAT) included in their monthly bills, which ISPs collect and deposit into the national treasury.
