Progress in Tariff Talks Between Bangladesh and the United States**

 

High-level delegations discuss mutual interests, focusing on trade relations

On Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 11:00 AM local time in Washington, D.C., Bangladesh’s Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin held a meeting with U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Jamison Greer at his office. The discussions marked significant progress in tariff negotiations between the two nations, according to a press release from the Chief Adviser’s press wing. The high-level delegations from both countries deliberated on mutually beneficial issues, with a particular emphasis on Bangladesh-U.S. trade, bilateral commercial relations, and ongoing tariff discussions. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to working together for mutual benefit. The meeting, held in Washington, D.C., was part of the second day of the second round of a three-day tariff negotiation session. The discussions covered nearly all critical aspects of the trade relationship between the two nations. The Bangladeshi delegation was led by Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin in Washington, D.C. National Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman and Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for Information Technology and Telecommunications, Foyez Ahmad Taiyyab, joined the talks virtually from Dhaka. Senior officials from the Bangladesh Ministry of Commerce were also present. On the U.S. side, senior officials from the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR), as well as representatives from the departments of Agriculture, Labor, Environment and Natural Resources, Treasury, Innovation and Intellectual Property, and Investment agencies, participated in the meeting.
