In a devastating accident in Natore’s Boraigram, a collision between a truck and a microbus resulted in the deaths of eight people, five of whom were from the same family in Dharmadah village, Daulatpur upazila, Kushtia. The victims were traveling to Sirajganj to visit an ailing relative when the tragedy occurred. The other three deceased were their relatives and the microbus driver. The incident has cast a pall of grief over the Dharmadah village, with relatives and locals mourning the loss.The accident took place around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, on the Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway near the Tarmuj Pump in the Airmari area. According to reports, the microbus was en route to Sirajganj when it collided with a truck, leading to the immediate death of five passengers. Three others, critically injured, were rushed to the Boraigram Upazila Health Complex, where one succumbed to injuries. The remaining two were transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment but later passed away.
The deceased have been identified as Jahidul Islam (55), his wife Selina Khatun (50), Anowara Khatun Anna (55), Anowara Khatun Anu (50), all from Dharmadah village, and Iti Khatun (40) from Pragpur village, who was Jahidul’s sister. Others include Sahab Hossain (35) from Dharmadah, Anjumanara (75) from Betbaria village in Gangni upazila, Meherpur, and Sahab Hossain Rubel (35), the microbus driver.
Jahidul’s cousin, retired army officer Janarul Islam, shared that the group had left around 7 a.m. to visit Jahidul’s son’s ailing wife, Shafia Begum, in Sirajganj’s Kamarkhand upazila. “Five from our village, including four from the same family, and the driver died in the crash. The tragedy also claimed Jahidul’s sister from Pragpur and his mother-in-law and sister-in-law from Gangni,” he said, expressing the deep sorrow that has engulfed the community.
Abdul Razzaq, a relative of the deceased, confirmed that the group was traveling to see Shafia Begum, who had recently undergone surgery. “All eight people in the microbus perished in this horrific accident,” he added.
Manjarul Islam Khokon, another cousin of Jahidul, said, “Two of Jahidul’s sons live abroad. They were going to see their son’s wife, who had an operation two days ago and was staying at her father’s house in Sirajganj. They hired a microbus and left at 7 a.m., but this tragedy struck on the way.”
The officer-in-charge of Bonpara Highway Police Station, Ismail Hossain, stated that the process of handing over the bodies and taking legal measures is underway. Daulatpur Police Station’s officer-in-charge, Md. Solaiman Sheikh, confirmed that five of the deceased were from Dharmadah, one from Pragpur, and the others from Betbaria in Gangni. The incident has left the entire region in mourning, with thousands gathering at the victims’ homes to offer condolences.
