Training for 150,000 Police to Begin in September for Election Duties

Dhaka, July 28, 2025: Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, announced that training for 150,000 police personnel on election-related duties will commence in September. He made this statement during a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Monday.

Alam stated that, in preparation for the national election, the Chief Adviser has directed increased coordination between the police and the army. "Starting from September, 150,000 police personnel will receive training on election-related matters. Additionally, 60,000 army personnel will be deployed for the election," he said.

Earlier on Monday, a meeting was held at the state guesthouse Yamuna, chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, to discuss election preparations with law enforcement agencies. The meeting reviewed the law and order situation and the readiness of law enforcement agencies for the election. Senior officials from law enforcement agencies, along with the Home Adviser, attended the meeting. During the discussion, the Chief Adviser issued directives to ensure a free and fair election. Meanwhile, Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus indicated during a meeting with leaders of 14 political parties on Saturday that the schedule for the 13th parliamentary election would be clarified within the current week. However, no specific mention of this was included in the press release from the Chief Adviser’s press wing, leading to some ambiguity in political circles. Political parties have expressed mixed reactions.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) welcomed the move, stating that the government should formally inform the Election Commission about the election date through proper procedures. They expressed hope that the election would be held by February, as promised. On the other hand, Jamaat-e-Islami claimed that the Chief Adviser did not mention anything about announcing the election date during the meeting.
