Two Workers Die in Septic Tank Incident in Madarganj

Jamalpur, Madarganj: Two construction workers died due to toxic gas inhalation while working inside an under-construction septic tank at a mosque in Madarganj, Jamalpur. The incident occurred around 4:00 PM on Tuesday, July 22, in the Jangalia Madhyapara area of Gunaritola Union.

The deceased have been identified as Jadu Miya (50), son of the late Junab Mondal, and Mosharaf (30), son of Suruj Mondal, both residents of the Jangalia area. The two were related as uncle and nephew and worked as masons. According to reports, Jadu Miya entered the septic tank to remove centering (temporary framework) but lost consciousness due to toxic gas. Mosharaf entered the tank to rescue him but also fell unconscious. Local residents attempted to rescue them but were unsuccessful. They informed the fire service, and teams from Jamalpur and Madarganj Fire Service stations arrived, rescuing the two workers in an unconscious state. They were rushed to the Madarganj Upazila Health Complex, where the duty doctor declared them dead. Dr. Saleh Mahadi, Medical Officer at Madarganj Upazila Health Complex, said, “Two patients were brought to us in a deceased state. Upon examination, it was confirmed that they had passed away before arriving here. The bodies have been handed over to their families.” Mohammad Delwar Hossain, an officer at Madarganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, stated, “Around 4:25 PM, we received information from Jangalia that two workers had collapsed inside an under-construction septic tank while removing centering. We rushed to the scene, and with the help of locals, we rescued the two in an unconscious state and took them to the Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor declared them dead.”
