Viral Video Falsely Links Seized Money to NCP Organizer Sarjis Alam, Clarifies Rumor Scanner

A viral video claiming that three sacks of money were recovered from the house of a friend of Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer of the National Citizen Party (NCP) in the northern region, has been debunked as false by fact-checking organization Rumor Scanner. The organization published a report on its website on Saturday (July 5), confirming the misinformation.

According to Rumor Scanner, the video actually depicts the arrest of an individual with money linked to drug trafficking in Mohammadpur’s Geneva Camp. Additionally, social media posts falsely claimed that Sarjis Alam is a government advisor, which is untrue.

Through analysis of images extracted from the video and a comparative study of two videos, Rumor Scanner confirmed that the footage was taken from a report published on June 5, 2025, titled “Operation in Geneva Camp: 10 Arrested with Tk 2.45 Crore from Drug Sales.” The video was misused to spread false claims about Sarjis Alam. The original report detailed a joint operation by the army and RAB-2 on the night of June 4 in Mohammadpur’s Humayun Road area at the Bihari Camp. The operation led to the seizure of Tk 2.45 crore in drug money, along with drugs and weapons, and the arrest of 10 individuals. The arrested persons were identified as Md. Ishak Ahmed (38), Md. Chummun (25), Md. Robiul Islam (30), Md. Rayhan (18), Md. Shahidul Islam Bijoy (18), Md. Imran Said (42), Md. Rasel (22), Md. Imran (32), Md. Shahadat (20), and Md. Nayan (23).
Rumor Scanner clarified that the footage of the drug money seizure in Geneva Camp was falsely presented as money recovered from the house of Sarjis Alam’s friend. The organization urged the public to remain cautious of such misleading information circulating on social media.
