Kurigram: At a public gathering organized by the Kurigram district branch of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis at Kurigram Government College ground on Saturday afternoon, the party’s Amir, Maulana Mamunul Haque, delivered a powerful speech as the chief guest. Maulana Mamunul Haque stated, “We once broke the chains of Pindi’s servitude. Attempts were made to turn us into slaves of Delhi. In 2024, we shattered the chains of Delhi’s servitude, but not to become slaves of Washington.”
Speaking at the event, Maulana Mamunul Haque strongly criticized the establishment of a United Nations Human Rights Commission mission in Dhaka. He expressed concerns about the interim government, saying, “Standing on the platform of the blood of thousands of martyrs from the July 2024 movement, the interim government has been established. However, we fear it is stepping into a new trap of conspiracy. A plot is underway to establish Washington’s dominance through the UN Human Rights Office in Bangladesh. We warn the government that if the UN Human Rights Commission is to operate in Bangladesh, it must have the mandate of the people. Only an elected government has the authority to make such policy decisions, not a temporary government of a few days.”
The gathering was presided over by Mufti Ibrahim Khalil, president of the Kurigram district branch, and moderated by the branch’s general secretary, Maulana Misbahul Islam. Other speakers included Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis’s Secretary General Maulana Jalaluddin Ahmad, Joint Secretary General Mufti Sharafat Hossain, Central Organizing Secretary Maulana Enamul Haque, and Central Executive Member Maulana Rezaul Karim, among others.
Maulana Mamunul Haque also criticized the ousted Awami League government during the mass uprising. Addressing the interim government regarding the upcoming national election, he urged, “Focus on the country’s development and ensure a free and fair election as per the announced roadmap.” He called on all political parties to unite and work together to build a new Bangladesh.
At the end of his speech, Maulana Mamunul Haque announced the names of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis candidates for the four constituencies in Kurigram for the upcoming national election. They are Shahidul Islam (Foyezi) for Kurigram-1, Mufti Nuruddin (Kashemi) for Kurigram-2, Mamunur Rashid for Kurigram-3, and Mufti Shahadat Hossain for Kurigram-4.
