Wife Absconds with Money and Gold After Divorcing Expatriate Husband in Naogaon**

In Naogaon, Chandni Banu, the wife of an expatriate, has allegedly absconded with approximately BDT 4.3 million in cash and gold ornaments after divorcing her husband, Nurul Islam. The incident occurred in Dogachi Patharkuta village under Naogaon Sadar Upazila.

According to a written complaint filed by Nurul Islam at the Naogaon Sadar Police Station, the couple married 13 years ago in their village. They have a son together. Nurul, who worked abroad to secure his family’s future, sent money to Chandni to purchase land. She bought 5 decimals of land on October 18, 2023, and another 3 decimals on April 16, 2023, registering them in her name. However, she delayed transferring the land to Nurul’s name upon his return to Bangladesh.

Nurul later learned through local sources that Chandni was involved in an extramarital affair. Despite his attempts to address the issue, Chandni became more defiant during his absence abroad. She allegedly took BDT 3 million in cash, gold ornaments worth BDT 1.3 million, land deeds for 8 decimals, and two Android phones before going into hiding.

Upon returning to Bangladesh, Nurul found Chandni’s phone switched off and her family uncooperative. Frustrated, he filed a complaint against Chandni and six others at Naogaon Sadar Police Station, seeking legal recourse. Nurul stated, “I sent her money for our family’s future, unaware of her affair. After receiving a divorce notice, I found her phone off and her family unhelpful. I had no choice but to seek police assistance.” Naogaon Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui confirmed receiving the complaint and said, “We are investigating the matter, and legal action will be taken based on our findings.”
Efforts to contact Chandni Banu were unsuccessful as her phone remained switched off.
