Writ Filed Seeking Judicial Commission to Investigate Lal Chand Murder Case

A writ petition has been filed in the High Court seeking the formation of a high-powered judicial commission to investigate the brutal murder of Lal Chand, also known as Sohag, a scrap trader, in front of Mitford (Sir Salimullah Medical College) Hospital in the capital. The petition also demands directives to arrest the real culprits directly involved in the killing.

Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akand filed the writ on Sunday at the relevant section of the High Court. Speaking to Prothom Alo, he said, "The writ was presented today before a High Court bench comprising Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque and Justice Ainun Nahar Siddika for a hearing. It will appear on the court’s cause list tomorrow, Monday, for further hearing."

On Wednesday, Lal Chand (39) was brutally murdered in front of Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka. Before the killing, he was beaten, attacked with bricks and stones, and his head and body were severely injured. At one point, he was stripped naked, and some individuals were seen jumping on his body. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expelled five leaders and activists from its youth wing (Jubo Dal), volunteer wing (Swechchhasebak Dal), and student wing (Chhatra Dal) for life due to their alleged involvement in the incident.
A case was filed on Thursday at Kotwali Police Station in the capital regarding the murder. The case was lodged by the victim’s sister, Manjuara Begum (42). The case names 19 individuals, with 15-20 others listed as unidentified accused.

In connection with this high-profile murder case, five individuals, including Titon Gazi, have been arrested. The other four are Mahmudul Hasan Mohin (41), Tarek Rahman Robin (22), Alamgir (28), and Monir alias Chhoto Monir (25).
