Bangladesh Defeats Nepal 3-0 in SAFF U-17 Women’s Championship
Bangladesh bounced back to winning ways in the SAFF U-17 Women’s Championship, defeating Nepal 3-0 at the Changlimithang Stadium in Bhutan. After a loss to India in their previous match, Aparna Biswas and her team showcased a commanding performance against Nepal.Bangladesh scored twice in the first half. In the 41st minute, Thainu Marma capitalized on a corner kick, firing a diagonal shot from inside the box to open the scoring. Just four minutes later, Suravi Akand Preeti doubled the lead with a long-range strike. Nepal’s goalkeeper came off her line but failed to intercept the ball, allowing Preeti to slot it into the net from outside the box.
After the break, Nepal pushed hard for a goal. In the 62nd minute, a mistake by a Bangladeshi midfielder handed Nepal’s forward a golden opportunity, but her shot hit the post. Nepal missed another clear chance when two of their players broke through Bangladesh’s offside trap, only to fail to beat the advancing Bangladeshi goalkeeper, who confidently collected the ball.
Suravi Akand Preeti came close to a hat-trick, but her shots in the 80th minute and during injury time struck the crossbar. Thainu Marma also saw a long-range effort hit the post in the 85th minute. However, substitute player Ria sealed the victory in injury time, skillfully dribbling past Nepal’s goalkeeper and defender to score Bangladesh’s third goal.
The SAFF U-17 Championship follows a double round-robin format. Bangladesh has already defeated Bhutan and Nepal but lost to India. They will face all three teams again, and the team with the most points after six matches will claim the championship title.
