In response to recent allegations of spot-fixing in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Sylhet Strikers, one of the franchise teams, has declared a ‘zero tolerance’ stance. The franchise stated that if any proven allegations of fixing or spot-fixing are brought against its players, coaching staff, or team management, strict action will be taken. A report published by *Prothom Alo* on August 18 revealed that the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) independent investigation committee confirmed the involvement of three BPL franchises, including Sylhet Strikers, in spot-fixing during the last BPL season. Two other franchises were also under scrutiny.
In a special statement issued today, Sylhet Strikers emphasized their commitment to maintaining the integrity, transparency, and discipline of the game. The statement read: “Sylhet Strikers has always prioritized the integrity, transparency, and discipline of cricket and will continue to do so. For the past three years, the team has worked tirelessly to contribute to the development of cricket in the country with a strong reputation and will continue to do so in the future. We have already reached out to the BCB and the investigation committee, and we are fully prepared to provide all relevant information. It is worth mentioning that a member of the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) has been working with the Sylhet Strikers team since the start of the BPL to ensure adherence to fair play policies.”
The statement further reiterated, “We reaffirm that if any proven allegations arise against any player, coaching staff, or team management, our stance will be one of ‘zero tolerance.’”
The franchise expressed deep regret over the inclusion of their name in the report, stating that they have no evidence or information suggesting the involvement of their players, coaching staff, or management in any wrongdoing. Sylhet Strikers emphasized that the team represents Sylhet and its people in the BPL, carrying the trust of millions of fans, players, coaches, management, sponsors, and partners.
The BPL has never lacked fan enthusiasm, and Sylhet Strikers reiterated their commitment to upholding the spirit of the game while addressing the allegations with transparency and cooperation
