Dhaka, August 20, 2025 – The Bangladesh Democratic Students Council (BAGCHAS) has announced a 27-member panel under the banner of "Anti-Discrimination Students Council" for the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election. The panel, led by Abdul Kader as the Vice-President (VP) candidate and Abu Bakar Mazumdar as the General Secretary (GS) candidate, was revealed on Wednesday afternoon in front of the Dhaka University Central Library.
The announcement was made by Shahidul Islam Bhuiyan, father of martyr Farhan Faiyaz. Abdul Kader, a key figure in the July Mass Uprising and the convener of BAGCHAS’s Dhaka University unit, and Abu Bakar Mazumdar, the central convener of the organization, are prominent leaders in the panel.
Other notable candidates include Ashrefa Khatun for Assistant General Secretary (AGS), Nahiyan Faruk for Literature and Culture Secretary, Mahir Alam for Social Welfare Secretary, Md. Hasibul Islam for Liberation War and Democratic Movement Secretary, Mohammad Sakib for International Affairs Secretary, Al Amin Sarker for Sports Secretary, Anika Tahsina for Law and Human Rights Secretary, Mitu Akter for Common Room and Cafeteria Secretary, Ahad Bin Islam Shoaib for Science and Technology Secretary, Sabbir Ahmed for Health and Environment Secretary, Rezwan Ahmed Rifat for Career and Development Secretary, and Md. Ismail Hossain Rudra for Student Transport Secretary.
Out of the 28 available posts, BAGCHAS has chosen not to nominate a candidate for the Research and Publication Secretary position, expressing support for Sanjida Ahmed Tanvi, a student injured during the July 15 movement last year.
The panel also includes candidates for member positions: Md. Masuduzzaman, Ferdous Aiyam, Ismail, Tapasi Rabeya, Md. Armanul Islam, Abdullah Al Mahmud, Rifati Al Jabed, Ashraf Anik, Raunak Jahan, Mahfuza Nawar Naurin, Nurul Islam Nahid, Arifur Rahman, and Ferdous Alam.
The announcement reflects BAGCHAS’s commitment to an inclusive and student-friendly representation in the DUCSU election, scheduled for September 9, 2025
