In a gruesome incident in Chandpur’s Matlab Uttar Upazila, a battery-powered rickshaw driver named Mizanur Rahman Abhi (35) was shot and hacked to death by miscreants. The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday (August 13) in the Hashimpur Bokultala area of Ekhlaspur Union.
Mizanur Rahman Abhi, son of Fazlul Haque from Ekhlaspur village, resided with his family in Narayanganj. According to local and police sources, Abhi had recently returned to his village from Narayanganj. He was reportedly embroiled in a dispute over local dominance with Nahid Gazi, a notorious member of a professional robbery and terrorist gang, who has multiple robbery cases pending in court.
On Wednesday morning, a local named Kamal spotted Abhi lying in a pool of blood on the road while heading to Ekhlaspur Ghat and alerted others. Locals rushed him to the Matlab Uttar Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Matlab Uttar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Robiul Haque told Kalbela that the body was recovered and sent to Chandpur Sadar Hospital for an autopsy. The deceased had multiple injuries and a bullet mark on his head. Preliminary investigations suggest the murder stemmed from a prior feud. A special operation is underway to apprehend those involved.
Police Superintendent Muhammad Abdur Rakib told Kalbela that the victim was a drug addict with a drug-related case against him. He had conflicts with a local gang over various issues. An investigation is ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
