The Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BM&DC) has taken strict measures against medical activities conducted by foreign doctors without valid registration.
In a letter signed by BM&DC’s Acting Registrar, Dr. Md. Liakat Hossain, on Saturday (August 16), the council issued a directive, which has already been sent to the event organizers.
It has been learned that a doctor from the Indian organization Prashanti Fertility Research Centre was scheduled to provide medical services at the International Convention Centre in Bashundhara, Dhaka, from August 21 to 23. However, BM&DC discovered that the concerned doctor had not obtained the necessary temporary registration to practice in Bangladesh. Consequently, the council instructed the organization to cancel the bookings.
According to the BM&DC, under the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council Act 2010, foreign doctors must obtain temporary registration before conducting medical activities in the country. The council noted that the doctor in question was promoting services without complying with this regulation, which is considered an illegal activity.
Additionally, BM&DC expressed concern over advertisements on social media that failed to disclose the identity or details of local organizers, labeling it a serious irregularity that raises health safety concerns.
In light of the situation, the International Convention Centre Bashundhara has been directed to cancel all bookings related to the doctor and ensure that no medical activities are conducted by them. The council has also called for necessary legal action to be taken.
