Candidates Including Mahin Sarkar Announced for ‘Integrated Student Parliament’ Panel

The ‘Integrated Student Parliament,’ a coalition of independent candidates, has announced its full panel for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election.

The panel was unveiled during a press conference held on Wednesday (August 20) evening at the university’s Madhur Canteen.

For the post of Vice President (VP), Md. Jamal Uddin Khaled, convener of Independent Bangladesh Student Parliament, has been nominated. Former coordinator Md. Abu Sayad Bin Mahin Sarkar is contesting for the General Secretary (GS) position, while Fateha Sharmin Anny will run for Assistant General Secretary (AGS). Among the secretarial positions, Ashikur Rahman has been nominated for the Liberation War and Democratic Movement Secretary, Abdullah Ibne Hanif Aryan for Science and Technology Secretary, Farzana Akter Mitu for Common Room, Reading Room, and Cafeteria Secretary, Imran Mia for International Affairs Secretary, Mohtasin Billah Imon for Literature and Culture Secretary, Muhaimenul Islam Toki for Sports Secretary, Rashed Khan Adib for Student Transport Secretary, Md. Faizullah for Social Welfare Secretary, and Meherin Afroz Maisha for Health and Environment Secretary. For the member positions, the panel has nominated Md. Gias Uddin, Rahat Sikdar, Bayezid Hasan, Md. Abdul Basit, Md. Mofazzal Hossain, Monir Hossain, Md. Abutaleb (Ifty), Abrar Zarif, Sabbir Uddin Rion, Md. Khaled Saifullah Jihad Bhuiyan, Md. Akash Shah, Md. Ismail Hossain, and Masum Billah. Earlier, the National Citizen Party (NCP) expelled Mahin Sarkar from his position as Joint Member Secretary for breaching serious party discipline. The expulsion was announced in a notice signed by NCP’s Joint Member Secretary (Office) Saleh Uddin Sifat on Monday (August 18) night. The notice stated that Mahin Sarkar was expelled from his post and responsibilities on the orders of Convener Md. Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain until further notice, effective from August 18. Mahin Sarkar, under the leadership of Jamaluddin Muhammad Khaled of the Independent Bangladesh Student Parliament, took nomination papers to contest the GS post in the DUCSU election as part of the ‘Integrated Student Parliament’ panel. However, this decision was not well-received by NCP’s top leadership, who had instructed him not to participate. A source from NCP told Kalbela that, although the Bangladesh Democratic Student Parliament (BDSP) is not an officially recognized student wing of NCP, its members engage in politics alongside NCP and participate in its programs. BDSP’s opinions were also considered while finalizing candidates for the DUCSU election. An NCP central committee member stated, “Despite the party’s prohibition, Mahin Sarkar decided to contest the DUCSU election, completely disregarding the party’s decision. This is primarily why he was expelled.”
