Dhaka, August 5, 2025: Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, will read the July Proclamation today, Tuesday, at 5:00 PM at the South Plaza of the National Parliament. The event will be broadcast live by Bangladesh Television (BTV), according to the Chief Adviser’s press wing.
The July Proclamation is a document stemming from the mass uprising of July 2024. It has been finalized by the interim government in consultation with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and other political parties, who have agreed on its state and constitutional recognition. The National Citizen Party (NCP) has been advocating for the proclamation and has organized programs to press for its adoption.
A draft of the July Proclamation, obtained from relevant sources, contains 26 points. The first 21 points briefly describe the historical and democratic struggles of the people of Bangladesh, including the Liberation War, leading up to the context of the July mass uprising.
To mark the July Mass Uprising Day, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs has organized a day-long cultural program at Manik Mia Avenue under the theme “36 July Celebration.” The event will begin at 11:00 AM with performances by various artist groups. At 2:25 PM, the moment of the “fascist’s retreat” will be commemorated, followed by performances by various bands. The reading of the historic July Proclamation will take place at 5:00 PM, followed by a special drone drama from 7:30 PM to 8:00 PM. The event will conclude with a performance by the band Artcell.
The program is organized by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, managed by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, with support from the National Parliament Secretariat. According to a source from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, representatives of political parties, families of July martyrs, and injured activists have been invited to the proclamation reading event.
Culture Adviser Mustafa Sarwar Farooki told Prothom Alo on Monday night, “The Chief Adviser will read the July Proclamation at the South Plaza of the Parliament in the presence of representatives of martyr families, all forces of the July uprising, political and social organizations, and civil society. Afterward, the program will resume on the stage at Manik Mia Avenue, concluding with a new media event—a drone drama.”
Farooki added, “July belonged to everyone, and this event will reflect everyone’s participation.”
Due to the July Proclamation reading event, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has requested public transport operators to use alternative routes around Manik Mia Avenue and the National Parliament area.
