Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has emphasized the need to expand the boundaries of the city corporation due to the growing population and economic activities in Chittagong city.
Speaking at a discussion and prayer event on Friday, August 29, 2025, during the inauguration of the reconstruction work of the Baytun Noor Central Jame Mosque in Boalia No. 2 Barshat Union, Anowara Upazila, the mayor highlighted the issue.
He stated that a large population living outside the current city corporation boundaries comes to the city daily for work and business. However, as these areas remain outside the corporation’s jurisdiction, development is being hindered. "This leads to limited economic expansion, causing us to lose significant revenue. This has become a serious challenge for us," he said. "If we love our country and Chittagong, we must expand this city. Several areas, particularly in South Chittagong, including parts of Karnaphuli and Anowara, need to be integrated into the city."
The mayor further noted, "We have fought against terrorism, corruption, and plundering in the past. We have struggled to protect people’s fundamental and democratic rights, and we will continue to work for the welfare of the people in the future, alongside them."
The event was chaired by Allama Mufti Khalil Ahmad Quraishi, with former Member of Parliament Sarwar Jamal Nizam as the chief speaker.
