Chittagong Police SI Withdrawn After Bribery Video Goes Viral

A police officer in Chittagong has been withdrawn from duty following the viral spread of a video showing him accepting a bribe. The officer, Sub-Inspector (SI) Shahin Bhuiyan, was serving as a General Register Officer (GRO) in the Women and Children Section at the Chittagong Court under the Chittagong Metropolitan Police. On Friday, he was removed from his court duties and reassigned to the Police Lines.

Confirming the incident, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, Mofiz Uddin, told Prothom Alo that the SI was withdrawn due to allegations of accepting a bribe. A committee has been formed to investigate the matter.

In the 32-second viral video, SI Shahin Bhuiyan is seen sitting in his office on the second floor of the court building. A lawyer hands him three currency notes from a wallet, which the officer counts and keeps. The video is believed to have been recorded before Eid-ul-Adha.
