Diploma Engineering Students Block Train in Gazipur Protest

On Thursday, August 14, 2025, diploma engineering students blocked railway tracks in the Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) area of Gazipur, halting train services for approximately 40 minutes. The protest began around 10:00 AM in the Joydebpur Shimultali area and ended at 11:40 AM when the students cleared the tracks.

The students, demonstrating for various demands, stopped the Dhaka-bound Banlata Express train from Rajshahi at around 11:00 AM. After 40 minutes, they allowed the train to resume its journey. Following the protest, the students marched towards Shib Bari Mor in Gazipur city.

Joydebpur Railway Junction Station Master Abul Hossain confirmed that the students blocked the Banlata Express during their protest, disrupting train services to and from northern Bangladesh for about 40 minutes. Normal train operations resumed after the students vacated the tracks. The students are protesting the postponement of the Dhaka Metro Rail Section Engineer recruitment exam, originally scheduled for Wednesday and Friday, due to a writ filed by BSc Engineering degree holders. Their demands include the immediate completion of the postponed Section Engineer recruitment exam, legal action against those conspiring against the Assistant Sub-Engineer post, restricting applications for the Assistant Sub-Engineer (Grade 10) post to diploma engineering students only, and action against individuals posting derogatory content about diploma engineering education and students.
