Malaysian authorities detained 98 Bangladeshis at Kuala Lumpur International Airport for lacking necessary entry documents. According to a report by Malaysia’s news agency Bernama on Friday (August 15), the detentions occurred during an operation conducted by the Malaysian Border Control and Security Agency (AKPS) at the airport’s Terminal 1 from 1:00 AM to 7:30 AM.
During the operation, AKPS officials inspected the documents of 181 individuals, of whom 98 Bangladeshis failed to provide valid entry documents. They were subsequently issued a “Not to Land” notice.
In a statement, AKPS revealed that the detained individuals arrived on an early morning flight from Bangladesh, likely to evade stricter daytime inspections. The authorities cited reasons for the detention, including fake hotel bookings, lack of return tickets, and failure to prove sufficient financial means, which prevented their entry into Malaysia.
AKPS further stated that the detained Bangladeshis, who arrived on tourist visas, were suspected of planning to misuse their visas by engaging in illegal work and residence in Malaysia.
