Father Arrested for Selling Three-Month-Old Daughter to Fund Drug Addiction in Chattogram

In a shocking incident in Lohagara, Chattogram, a father has been arrested for allegedly selling his three-month-old daughter, Jannatul Mawa Mimha, to fund his drug addiction. The accused, Miraj Uddin, 30, was detained by police, and the infant was rescued and handed over to her mother.

The incident occurred on Friday (August 8) at around 9 PM in the Akbar Para area of Sador Union, Lohagara Upazila.

Miraj Uddin, son of the late Hafizur Rahman from Akbar Para, is an autorickshaw driver by profession.

According to reports, Miraj married Asmaul Hosna from BaddanJhiri, AcharTali area of Naikhongchhari, Bandarban, two years ago. The couple has a daughter, who was allegedly sold by Miraj to fund his drug addiction. Upon receiving the information, Lohagara police conducted an operation in the Mochdia area and rescued the infant.

Asmaul Hosna, the child’s mother, stated, “My husband regularly consumed drugs. Whenever I protested, he would physically assault me.”

Lohagara Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arifur Rahman said, “Upon receiving information about the child being sold, we immediately conducted an operation, rescued the infant, and handed her over to her mother after initial medical treatment. A case against Miraj Uddin is under process.”
