The first unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) has successfully completed the "Cold and Hot" testing of its steam supply pipelines to the turbine, marking a significant milestone in the plant’s commissioning process. The tests involved a blowdown procedure using steam to clean and verify the pipelines' operational readiness, ensuring they are fully functional for supplying steam to the turbine.
The blowdown was conducted with steam at a pressure of two megapascals and a temperature of 200°C, as per design specifications, to remove residual particles, debris, or moisture from the pipelines. During the process, high-pressure steam was released into the atmosphere, causing loud noises. Local residents were informed in advance to prevent any concerns.
The RNPP, equipped with advanced Russian VVER-1200 reactor technology, is expected to supply clean energy for decades, meeting approximately 10% of Bangladesh’s current electricity demand. The project, supported by Russian financial and technical assistance, comprises two units, each with a capacity of 1,200 megawatts.
