The government is set to appoint 15 First Secretaries to diplomatic missions in 12 countries, including the United States, Canada, and Italy. A reliable source from the Security Services Division of the Home Ministry confirmed the details. The source revealed that the government has already received intelligence reports for the appointment of First and Second Secretaries to various foreign missions. A shortlist of candidates has been approved by the Chief Adviser, and the list will be forwarded to the Ministry of Public Administration from the Home Ministry within the next few days for further processing.

Among the 15 First Secretaries, Tahmina Tarin, a Special Officer on Duty (Senior Assistant Secretary) at the Ministry of Public Administration, will be appointed as First Secretary in the Passport and Visa Wing of the Bangladesh High Commission in Singapore. Kamrun Nahar, Senior Assistant Secretary at the Ministry of Social Welfare, will be posted as First Secretary at the Bangladesh Consulate General in New York, USA. Lamiya Saiful, Senior Assistant Secretary at the Power Division, will serve as First Secretary in the Passport and Visa Wing of the Bangladesh High Commission in London, UK. Md. Mahiuddin, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Kaptai, Rangamati, will be appointed as First Secretary in the Passport and Visa Wing of the Bangladesh High Commission in Ottawa, Canada. A.W.M. Raihan Shah, Senior Assistant Secretary and Cantonment Executive Officer, will be posted as First Secretary in the Passport and Visa Wing of the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Other appointments include Md. Abdul Jabbar, Deputy Chief (Senior Assistant Secretary) of the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission, as First Secretary in the Passport and Visa Wing of the Bangladesh Consulate General in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Md. Yasin Kabir, Additional District Administrator (Overall) in Faridpur, as First Secretary in the Passport and Visa Wing of the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Rubaiya Afroz, Additional District Administrator (Development and Human Resources Management) in Cox’s Bazar, as First Secretary in the Passport and Visa Wing of the Bangladesh Embassy in Abu Dhabi, UAE; Md. Anisur Rahman, Senior Assistant Secretary at the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division, as First Secretary in the Passport and Visa Wing of the Bangladesh Embassy in Muscat, Oman; Md. Abidur Rahman, Senior Assistant Secretary at the Health Services Division, as First Secretary in the Passport and Visa Wing of the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, D.C., USA; Md. Additionally, at least four officers are likely to be appointed as Second Secretaries in Jordan, Hong Kong, South Africa, and the UK. Among them, Md. Rahat Bin Kutub, currently the Private Secretary to the Home Secretary, will be appointed as Second Secretary in the Passport and Visa Wing of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Birmingham, UK. Md. Ashraful Haque, UNO of Nilphamari Sadar, will be posted as Second Secretary in the Passport and Visa Wing of the Bangladesh High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa. Umme Salma, UNO of Dimla, Nilphamari, will serve as Second Secretary in the Passport and Visa Wing of the Bangladesh Consulate General in Hong Kong, and G.M. Rashedul Islam, Senior Assistant Commissioner at the District Administrator’s Office in Narayanganj, will be appointed as Second Secretary in the Passport and Visa Wing of the Bangladesh Embassy in Amman, Jordan.
A senior official from the Home Ministry, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that a shortlist of officers has been prepared and sent to the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration for further action. Another official noted that previous shortages of officers in several embassies led to delays and complaints regarding passport and visa services. The new appointments are expected to significantly alleviate these issues.
A shortlisted officer, who preferred anonymity, expressed pride in the opportunity, describing the role as both an honor and a challenge. The officer emphasized their commitment to providing efficient and high-quality consular services to Bangladeshi expatriates, aiming to contribute to the nation from abroad.
