Husband Kills Wife Suspecting Extramarital Affair, Surrenders with Child in Patuakhali

In Patuakhali’s Bauphal, a husband named Sarwar Hossain (40) allegedly killed his wife, Salma Akter (32), suspecting her of an extramarital affair and surrendered to the police with their four-year-old child. The incident occurred on Wednesday (July 30), and Sarwar confessed to the crime at Bauphal Police Station on Thursday (July 31) night, accompanied by his son, Sarfaraz.

Salma Akter, a lecturer in the Bangla department at Nurainpur Nesaria Degree Madrasa in Bauphal, was the daughter of the late Rustam Ali from Dhawa village in Pirojpur’s Bhandaria upazila. Sarwar Hossain, son of the late Moksed Ali from Nadmula village in Pirojpur upazila, admitted to slitting his wife’s throat with a sharp machete, leading to her death on the spot. Based on his confession, police recovered the body from the crime scene. Local sources revealed that the couple, along with their only child, lived in a rented house owned by Jasim Uddin Bepari in Chandrapara village, Bauphal, due to Salma’s job. The couple had been facing marital disputes for some time. On Wednesday afternoon, Sarwar attacked Salma with a machete, striking her neck, and fled with their child after locking the house. He later surrendered to the police on Thursday.
Bauphal Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Atikul Islam confirmed that after Sarwar’s confession, police immediately visited the scene and recovered the body. The child was taken into police custody for safety. Officer-in-Charge Aktaruzzaman Sarker stated that during preliminary interrogation, Sarwar admitted to killing his wife over suspicions of her involvement in an extramarital affair. The body will be sent to Patuakhali morgue for autopsy, and preparations are underway to file a murder case.
