Menlo Park, August 1, 2025: Meta is developing "personal superintelligence," an artificial intelligence (AI) technology designed to cater to individual needs, according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. In a video message, Zuckerberg outlined the company’s vision, stating, “We aim to create AI that assists users in achieving their personal goals, creating what they want, pursuing desired experiences, and becoming the person they aspire to be.”
Unlike many tech companies focusing on centralized AI systems that automate all tasks, Meta’s approach emphasizes empowering individuals. Zuckerberg highlighted, “Human progress in science, culture, health, and prosperity has always stemmed from people pursuing their dreams and aspirations. We believe an AI that understands us, knows our goals, and directly supports us in achieving them will be the most effective in the future.”
Meta’s vision involves creating AI that aligns with individual values and needs, moving beyond passive consumption of technology. The company is investing heavily in this initiative, with 2025 capital expenditures projected at $66–72 billion to build AI infrastructure, including custom chips and data centers. Meta has also formed the Meta Superintelligence Labs, led by Alexandr Wang, to develop advanced AI models like Llama, with a focus on both open-source and closed models to balance accessibility and safety.
While Zuckerberg is optimistic about superintelligence accelerating human progress, he acknowledges new safety concerns, emphasizing rigorous risk mitigation and selective open-sourcing. However, some skepticism exists, with posts on X suggesting Meta’s approach may rely on overhyped large language models (LLMs) that lack true cognitive abilities or could exacerbate screen addiction. Despite these concerns, Meta’s push for personal superintelligence aims to redefine how AI integrates into daily life, prioritizing personal empowerment over automation.
